'Value for Money'
Whether it's a one-off video interview to capture the memories of a loved family member; a 90 minute full-on family or organisation history documentary; or a 70,000 word 500 page book taking 2 years to research and write, the emphasis of the business is on producing a high quality 'value for money' output.
DocumentariesFamily histories, because they involve only a couple of people and the research is either not required or provided by the family, are simpler to produce and thus cheaper to make. A 60 minute documentary will take about 120 hours to produce and will cost about $6000. A short one-off interview filmed and edited, with a few photos added would be from $1000 - plus any travel cost of out of Auckland if required - invoiced as incurred.
Company and Organisation histories usually involve many stakeholders, meetings, reviews, multiple off-location film shoots, and the bringing together of research and information from many sources. Generally, a 60 minute video of this type will be edited down from 7 hours of filmed resource material. It will take 600+ hours to produce and the price will depend on the 'extras' the organsation requires. An indicative base price is $15,000 to $20,000.
BooksThe cost of a family history book will be determined by the amount of research involved, the number of photos and the complexity of the requirement in terms of genealogical research, etc. Indicative cost of a 60,000 word 400 page book is $9000, plus the cost of printing - which is about $1000 for 20 copies of a 400 page book including multiple pages of colour photos. Any out of pocket expenses, e.g. out of town travel, are charged out at cost.
